WTF Was Wrong With Those Adults?

In her late elementary and early middle school years, there was nothing like her hearing it's time for "back-to-school clothes shopping."
After dragging out in the August heat, her thighs rubbing against the in-seams of her polyester shorts, Lil' Hilde entered THE PRETTY PLUS SECTION in Sears, located by the Mall exit and right across from the THE HUSKY SECTION for boys.
It was a tiny section; four or five carousels with a range of drab-colored blue or black polyester pants, polyester striped shirts, and a few polyester dresses. Lil' Hilde and her mother would circle the carousels like they were wandering the desert, dying and looking for water. Will we find any?
Sometimes, Lil' Hilde would find a shirt she kinda sorta liked, hold it up and her mother would immediately check the size, shake her head, and continue to swish swish swish at the clothes on the carousel. Her mother might find something (aka: anything) that would fit and relegated Lil' Hilde to the dressing room. With sweat pouring off her, she'd twist, push and pull in an attempt to slide an inevitably too-small scratchy wool sweater over her flubs. So much for the signs that said, "PERFECT FOR YOUR CHUBETTE."
To Hilde, it was apparent that nothing in THE PRETTY PLUS SECTION felt pretty, OR comfortable OR felt plus-sized. It's probably why she lives for cotton everything and freaks out at the slightest pinch of too-tight clothing.
Plus, she's been wondering since starting the GLP-1 and journaling. Why TF did Sears and other stores even have the "YOUR KID IS FATTER THAN AVERAGE SO SEND THEM INTO THIS CORNER OF THE STORE" department instead of just incorporating all the kids clothes into one department?
